Foreign investments come extremely rarely – Ukraine is thought of last. Many companies are thinking about leaving our market, grabbing as much as possible on the way out. Meanwhile, other countries have made a big leap in recent years. In China, foreign companies are developing, but the legislation protects its own businessmen: foreign investments can only work where local residents act as co-founders. Singapore went even further: barely exceeding Kyiv in population, it leads in economic growth rates in the world. But all conditions for investments have been created there. The main goal of the organization is to represent the international business community and promote the development of the Ukrainian economy by attracting and supporting foreign investors. The American Chamber of Commerce not only serves as a platform for developing business relations among companies and governments but also contributes to improving Ukrainian legislation: at regular specialized committees, international specialists make their proposals for adjusting individual laws and bills – not to create more favorable conditions for any country or company, but so that the rules of the game in the market are fair and understandable. The organization’s board of directors includes heads of such international companies and institutions as Coca Cola, Carlsberg, Metro, Microsoft, EBRD, etc. In our project, the American Chamber of Commerce will share its practical experience working with foreign investors, as well as provide expert comments from international specialists.

Oleksandr Kendyukhov, Donetsk
“The main strategic priorities of national economic development should be two parallel processes: rapid change of the national production structure from the traditional for Ukraine morally and physically obsolete, low-profit industrial-agricultural production base to export-oriented high-profit production and sharp acceleration of all economic processes. It is extremely important to create conditions for an entrepreneurial boom and ensure proper distribution of national investment flows.”

Oleksandr Kendyukhov – Doctor of Economics, Professor, Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Union of Economists, Academician of the Academy of Economic Sciences of Ukraine, Head of the Department of Strategic Management of Economic Development at Donetsk National Technical University.

Oleksiy Katasonov, Kyiv
“Attracting a foreign investor allows achieving several goals simultaneously. This is not only access to cheap financial resources but also an increase in the level of legal protection of joint business assets. The latter, given the current situation in the country, is quite relevant.

In addition, in the process of preparing to attract a foreign investor, a Ukrainian enterprise involuntarily begins to focus on implementing and following Western business standards, creates an understandable, simple and effective, from the point of view of tax planning, ownership and management structure. With a competent approach, this to a certain extent already in itself provides an additional level of asset protection and leads to a reduction in the cost base.”

Oleksiy Katasonov – lawyer, attorney of the Tax and Legal Services Department of PwC Ukraine (PricewaterhouseCoopers)
Oleksiy works at PwC in the M&A and Corporate Law Services Department and has 10 years of experience in law.
