Young vocalists and musicians, solo performers, ensembles, and groups take part in it. As early as May 29, “The Future Exists!” will bring 15 participants together on the stage of the Sumy Regional Philharmonic. We would like to introduce you to the young rising stars of classical music.
Taras Mykhailenko — a little bayan player
This young talent studies in the 4th grade of Children’s Music School No. 1 with teacher Oleksandr Lazarkov. Taras is very curious and active. Besides music, he is fond of athletics. From the first grades, he actively takes part in school concerts, the school’s reporting concerts, and children’s philharmonic concerts. He dreams of connecting his future life with music.
Taras Mykhailenko is a participant in many competitions where he shows good results. For the last two years in a row, he became a laureate of the 1st Prize at the All-Ukrainian competition “Barvy Poltavy”. This year he has already repeated last year’s achievement — 1st Prize at the International competition “Art-Dominanta” in Zaporizhzhia. And for the third year in a row, he has taken first places at Yevhen Stankovych’s International Competition in Kyiv.
Nazar Tymchenko’s folk instrument
His parents brought him to music school at the age of five to learn to play the domra. Already at the entrance exams, he impressed the committee with his bright abilities and a great desire to study music. Today, Nazar Tymchenko is a 6th-grade student at Children’s Music School No. 1 with teacher Tetiana Pliushch. He is very disciplined and obedient, hardworking and inquisitive. Since the second grade, he has taken part in the school’s concert life and various competitions, where he wins prizes. Among them are the All-Ukrainian competition of folk-instrument performers “Provesin”, the competition “Barvy Poltavy”, Yevhen Stankovych’s International Competition, the “Art Premium” competition, and the music and academic vocal festival-competition “Zolota Lira”.
Nazar really enjoys performing on stage both as a soloist and as part of ensembles and orchestras. Besides music, he plays football professionally and is an excellent student at school.
Pianist and saxophonist Oleksii Riabyko
Oleksii Riabyko studies at Children’s Music School No. 2 in two departments: piano — with teacher Natalia Boichenko, and wind instruments — with teacher Ihor Pysmennyi. He has achieved high results in both. This year, as a pianist, he took first place at the International Charity Festival-Competition “Zymova Fantaziia”. In the same year, as a saxophonist, he became the winner of the regional competition. He has many victories in composer competitions: “Prolisok” (Sumy), “Zolota Lira” (Dnipro), three times at the International Competition named after O. Spendiarov (Yalta), annually at the All-Ukrainian competition “Zhyva Muzyka” (Kyiv), and three times at the All-Ukrainian competition “Fantaziia” (Mariupol). One of Oleksii Riabyko’s latest interests is jazz improvisation, and in this area he has already managed to win several awards.

This charming boy devoted his childhood years to music, especially singing in the group of teacher Natalia Nikiforova. Thanks to his perseverance, purposefulness, and hard work, the student achieved good results. His first victories came from school vocal competitions, where he always took first places. Over the last three years of his studies, Nikita Herman received the Audience Choice Certificate at the Open Competition of Young Performers “Pervotsvit”, won a prize for the best performance of a Ukrainian piece at the competition “Poliska Rapsodiia”, and became the winner of the Sumy children’s creativity festival “Zoriana Nadiia”.
Nikita annually takes part in city competitions of drawing and photography. He is a participant in the “Shkola Maie Talent” festival and the competitions of “pupils and student youth” named after T. H. Shevchenko at his School No. 9. For this young talent, all his victories are a stimulus for studying, work, and further high achievements.

Marina is also the winner of the oblast solfeggio olympiad among students of children’s schools of aesthetic education and a diploma holder of the All-Ukrainian Open Classical Music Competition “Obrii Klasyky” in Kyiv in the “theoretical disciplines” category. Her teacher for music-theoretical disciplines is Viktoriia Rudenko.
Marina adores pets and is interested in the work of contemporary Ukrainian composers and performers. She is energetic, cheerful, sincere, and kind. Marina confidently goes toward her dream; her life motto is “I see the goal — I see no obstacles.”
Vocal duet Mariia Sydorenko and Yeva Lazareva
Both vocalists study at Children’s Music School No. 4 in the vocal-choral department in the class of teacher Liudmyla Saverska. The duo’s permanent accompanist is Anna Kobzysta. This duo appeared at the beginning of 2016, and in such a short time the girls twice became laureates of the 1st Prize at the oblast competition of vocal performers “Kamerata” and many others.
In addition to music lessons, they have many other hobbies. Masha dances in the folk dance ensemble “Solnyshko” and plays tennis. Yeva loves playing football and reading fiction.
Aurelii and Anastasiia Serhiieva — a family duo of violinists
This charming family duo can boast victories in international and regional competitions and festivals in London, Marlow, and Riga. The duo consists of siblings, Aurelii and Anastasiia. Nastia has been learning to play the violin since the age of seven, and Aurelii since the age of four. They were born in London into a family with musical roots on the maternal side. From early childhood, they did not lose touch with Ukraine and often visited Sumy to see their grandparents. Their grandmother, Zhanna Savelieva, a talented violinist and former soloist of the Sumy Regional Philharmonic, instilled in her grandchildren a love for the violin and became their first teacher. A great influence on their formation was Vilen Zheludev, a gifted pianist who introduced Nastia and Aurelii to music literacy, the basics of harmony, and taught them to play the piano. The children have been studying at the Sumy Children’s Music School since 2015.
Andrii Dudchenko — a musical talent from the very first notes
Andrii Dudchenko is a boy with good musical abilities. He has diverse interests. He reads a lot of fiction and scientific literature and practices capoeira. At children’s music school, he studies saxophone with teacher Kyrylo Yazykov; his accompanist is Antonina Makarchuk. Andrii actively participates in the concert life of the class and the school. Already in the first year of study, he masters the instrument with ease. Andrii performed excellently with a solo concert number at the celebration “Initiation of First-Graders into Musicians”. He also performed on the stage of the Sumy Regional Philharmonic in a duet with his teacher.
The friendly group of bayan and accordion players “Kaleidoscope”
The ensemble has eight participants: accordionists Adriana Malynovska, Yana Sheveleva, and Roman Tymchenko; bayan players Azarii Hlushko, Davyd Mykhailyk, and Danyil Yermolenko; and percussionists Bohdan Malynovskyi and Mykhailo Kalinin. The ensemble has existed for two years and can already boast many victories. They became the best at the International Music Festival “Inspiration”, made it into the top three at the 5th International Competition of Folk-Instrument Performers “Art-Dominanta”, the All-Ukrainian Open Festival-Competition “Barvy Poltavy”, and the Open Ensemble Music-Making Competition “Kamerata”.
The ensemble leaders, Liudmyla Kyrychenko and Nataliia Hrytsenko, pay much attention to the repertoire, know how to engage their students, work closely on children’s musical education, and actively participate in school and extracurricular events.
Vocal ensemble “Barvy”: better as a choir
The founder of this vocal ensemble is a highly professional teacher, Vera Chernysh, who taught children to love music and fostered their interest in working in a group. Since 2014, the ensemble has been led by Olga TRALO, a teacher of the choral department. The vocal ensemble includes students from all departments of the school. The teacher nurtures a love of folk, modern, foreign, and wind music, using various genres in her work. The vocal ensemble “Barvy” is a laureate of the oblast vocal ensemble competition in 2015, 2016, and 2017. All the children in the group are very talented and attend classes with great enthusiasm.
The friendly rhythm of the wind orchestra
The wind orchestra of School No. 29 was created in 1995. The purpose of creating this group is the personal development of children and the development of their musical talents. Since 2002, the orchestra has been led by an experienced musician, a creative teacher, and wind-instrument instructor Yurii Pakhomov. Today, 22 people study in the group. These are students of grades 6–9 who study in the wind-instrument department. The orchestra includes flutes, clarinets, saxophone, trumpets, French horns, tenors, baritone, tubas, and percussion instruments. Musical pieces that students like are learned faster and performed more diligently, more rhythmically, in one breath. Therefore, the director very carefully selects a repertoire that modern children like and that suits them. The children enjoy working in the group. Throughout its existence, this group has become a participant and winner of numerous competitions.
Violin ensemble: from young to old
The violin ensemble, under the permanent direction of Svetlana Rybalchenko, a teacher of the orchestral department, has existed since 2007. It is famous for good traditions and has positive feedback from colleagues and parents. The ensemble includes 12 students who are divided into junior and senior groups. The youngest schoolchildren begin making music in the ensemble from the second grade for 3–4 years. The ensemble’s repertoire is very interesting and diverse. With special pleasure, the children play fairytale-themed pieces, music from cartoons, and children’s films. It is surprising and pleasing that the schoolchildren have a very wide range of interests. They are interested not only in music—they attend dance and sports clubs. All members of the group also excel in school subjects and earn high scores. The older members of the group participate in olympiads in a wide variety of subjects, study foreign languages, and attend clubs in computer science, astronomy, philosophy, journalism, and theatre arts.
The teacher and accompanist of the violin ensemble is Viktoriia Berestovska.
The friendly singing of the choral group “Melodiia”
Choral singing is a wonderful way to educate children. It unites them into a friendly group, organizes and disciplines them, and develops memory. In 2000, a choral group “Melodiia” was created on the basis of Sumy Specialized School No. 29. It includes three choirs of different age categories: the junior choir—children of grades 3–4, the middle choir—students of grades 5–6, and the senior choir—grades 7–11 of the music profile. The director of the group is a responsible person, a choirmaster with many years of experience, Valentyna Derkach. The repertoire includes songs that differ in style, genre, and content. The choral group “Melodiia” is considered an active promoter of Ukrainian choral music.
Little pianist Kateryna Yermakova
Pianist Kateryna Yermakova studies in the 8th grade. During all the years of learning to play the piano, she has become a participant and winner of numerous competitions, festivals, and concerts. Her achievements include participation in the regional competition of young musicians “Shliakh do Zirok”, victory at the 5th Open Competition of Young Pianists “Charivnyi Roial”, the competition of young pianists named after M. L. Karina Yelisieieva — a talented bandura player
At the age of six, Karina Yelisieieva came to study at Sumy Specialized School No. 29, and from the second grade she began studying music. She independently chose her instrument—the bandura. The reason is that in a summer camp, Karina heard this amazing folk instrument and already then decided to learn to play it. From the first lessons, it was clear that Karina Yelisieieva is a very talented and gifted child. The young bandura player pays special attention to selecting her repertoire and prefers to perform works by contemporary composers. For 7 years, this girl has been studying music. She takes part with great interest in the bandura ensemble “Melodiia”, the folk instruments orchestra, and the choral group “Melodiia”.
