Top 50 – 2017: results of the Ranking of the Most Influential and Important People of the Sumy Region and Their Achievements in 2017

Every year, the organizers of the ranking “Sumy Region. TOP 50 People and Their Beneficial Deeds” face a natural question: whom, and most importantly, for what should be included in the ranking? What principle should be applied so that it is both objective and interesting, and does not go beyond the defined boundaries? Sometimes events in the country and the city themselves put everything in its place – 100 volunteers, 50 civic activists. And sometimes there is no single criterion that can be applied, because the number of active and productive people is limited to a certain circle, and each new year brings only minor changes and not many new interesting names.

Therefore, summarizing the year 2017, we decided to pay attention to those who usually remain outside our focus, but whose contribution to the development and formation of people and society is hard to overestimate. First of all, these are teachers and doctors. The medical top ten debuts in our ranking; it is, of course, subjective, within the limits of our knowledge and understanding of this profession. But we ask you not to judge us too harshly – we will purposefully develop this direction.

In addition, the TOP 50 includes several civic projects that became winners and participants of the public participatory budget; in simpler terms, their small projects won the competition and received funds from the city budget for implementation. We believe that such initiatives are the future of the city and deserve support.

Instead of the “Business Top Ten” this year, there is an agricultural top ten, which, you must agree, fully reflects the dynamics of the development of the Ukrainian economy. Meanwhile, the “Green,” “Sports,” and “Golden” top tens preserve their long-standing traditions.

This year there is also another innovation – the best and most deserving were determined not only by experts. Our top tens and the TOP 50 list also include those people who scored the highest number of points in online voting. They are marked in our lists with a corresponding symbol.

Within the scope of medical-related issues, or more precisely, healthcare issues, our laureate in the “Person of the Year” nomination is Borys Kulyk. In previous years, experts proposed the candidacy of this dedicated man several times, and now, finally, his time has come.

Your time will come as well. As Ivan Franko said, “…strike at this rock…” – and you will achieve your goal.
