September 19: how the work week ended in Sumy and the Sumy region
War with Russia
During the day, from the morning of September 18 to the morning of September 19, 2025, Russian troops carried out 91 shelling attacks on 23 settlements in 12 territorial communities of the region. The highest number of attacks was recorded in the Sumy and Shostka districts.
The enemy used 40 guided aerial bomb (KAB) strikes, more than 10 unguided rocket (NAR) strikes, more than 10 VOG grenade drops from UAVs, and carried out UAV and FPV drone strikes on the territory of the Sumy region.
As a result of Russian shelling of the region, fortunately, there were no civilian casualties.
In the Sumy community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged.
Situation on the border with the Russian Federation
The Defense Forces of Ukraine achieved successes in the area of Bezsalivka of the Bilopillia community and in the area of Stepne and Kostiantynivka of the Khotin community.
The enemy continued offensive actions in the area of Bezsalivka of the Bilopillia community. Enemy troops are present in the following communities:
- Khotin community: Volodymyrivka, Novomykolaivka, Oleksiivka, Kostiantynivka, and Bilovody;
- Yunakivka community: Yablunivka, Novenke, Varachyne, Basivka, Yunakivka, Loknia, and Sadky.
Evacuation
Over the course of the day, local authorities, together with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and public organizations, evacuated 23 people from border communities.
Sad news
The bodies of 1,000 deceased Ukrainians were returned to Ukraine. According to the Russian side, they belong to Ukrainian servicemen. After identification, the bodies will be handed over to their relatives for dignified burial.
Local business
Over three years of war, due to constant shelling, nearly 600 enterprises have left the Sumy region or ceased operations. Today, 8,058 enterprises operate and pay taxes in the region (there were 8,651 in 2022). According to Opendatabot, 70 businesses left the Sumy region, while 139 relocated here.
More grim statistics: in 2025, 51 agricultural enterprises were damaged due to enemy shelling. Over the entire period of the full-scale invasion, there have been more than 200 such cases.
Sports
The national team of Ukraine in para-armwrestling (athletes with visual and mobility impairments) достойно represented the country at the 2025 World Championship. Athletes from Sumy showed strong results:

- Yurii Kotii, Anatolii Sassa
Oleksandr Shumylo and Olesia Malashtan finished in fifth place.
Support for children of the Sumy region
The Sumy Regional Center for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation of Children is implementing the “Emotional Waterfall” program. Its goal is to help children who have the status of those affected by the war cope with anxiety and stress, build self-confidence, develop creativity, and learn to find solutions in difficult situations. There are more than 61,000 such children in the Sumy region. Art therapy, play-based trainings, workshops, and patriotic activities help children overcome anxiety, develop self-confidence, learn to support one another, and believe in victory.
More than 3,000 children from the Sumy region were able to undergo rehabilitation and отдых in 14 countries. These programs included children of servicemen, internally displaced persons, orphans, and those most in need of support.
