War with Russia

During the day, from the morning of September 19 to the morning of September 20, 2025, Russian troops carried out 99 shelling attacks on 41 settlements in 14 territorial communities of the region. The highest number of attacks was recorded in the Sumy and Shostka districts.

The enemy used 20 guided aerial bomb (KAB) strikes, up to 10 VOG grenade drops from UAVs, and also carried out UAV strikes, FPV drone strikes, and MLRS attacks on the territory of the Sumy region.

As a result of Russian shelling of the region, fortunately, there were no civilian casualties.

Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged:

  • in the Bilopillia community, a civilian infrastructure facility, a private house, and a vehicle were damaged;
  • in the Yunakivka community, two private houses were damaged.

On the morning of September 20, the enemy struck non-residential buildings in the Kovpakivskyi district of the city of Sumy. Preliminary reports indicate no casualties. There was a power outage. Electricity was cut off in part of the Kovpakivskyi district of Sumy due to shelling. Trolleybus routes on Peremohy Avenue in Sumy were temporarily replaced by buses. Later, electricity on Peremohy Avenue in Sumy was restored. Trolleybus traffic is also gradually being restored.

Evacuation

Over the course of the day, local authorities, together with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and public organizations, evacuated one person from border communities. This was a 31-year-old pregnant woman with her five-month-old infant, who was evacuated from the Druzhbivka community by the “White Angels”. The border village where the woman lived is located five kilometers from the border with Russia. Enemy shelling destroyed infrastructure there and damaged residential buildings. The woman and her child are now safe.

Charity event

A charity “Flea Market” took place in Sumy. New and used items were sold at the event — shoes, jewelry, and books. Funds were also collected for Ukrainian defenders. The September fair was the fourth such event in 2025.
