September 3: how life went on in Sumy and the Sumy region on Wednesday

War with Russia

Over the course of the day, from the morning of September 2 to the morning of September 3, 2025, Russian troops carried out 108 shelling attacks on 51 settlements in 18 territorial communities of the region. The highest number of attacks was recorded in the Sumy and Shostka districts.

The enemy carried out more than 20 guided aerial bomb (KAB) strikes, 10 MLRS strikes, more than 10 UAV strikes, as well as FPV drone attacks and VOG grenade drops from UAVs on the territory of Sumy region.

As a result of Russian shelling of the region, civilians were injured:

• In the Bilopillia community, a girl born in 2011 was injured as a result of a UAV strike on a civilian house;
• In the same community, a driver born in 1980 was injured due to a UAV strike on a vehicle;
• A 35-year-old man from Poltava region died in hospital after being injured on August 26 by enemy shelling while carrying out construction work in Shostka district. Doctors fought for his life for a week, but his heart stopped yesterday evening.

Objects of civilian infrastructure were damaged or destroyed:

• in the Sumy community, a civilian infrastructure facility and an administrative building were damaged;
• in the Znob-Novhorodske community, a tractor was damaged;
• in the Seredyna-Buda community, a civilian infrastructure facility and private households were damaged;
• in the Bilopillia community, non-residential premises and a private household were damaged; one vehicle was damaged and another was destroyed;
• in the Vorozhba community, two private houses were damaged;
• in the Novoslobidska community, a private house was destroyed;
• in the Stepanivka community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged.

Grim shelling statistics: during the day there were 108 attacks on 51 settlements. As a result of the attacks, five private houses, educational and preschool institutions, as well as garages and vehicles were damaged.

On September 3, around noon, a Russian “Molniya” UAV struck the center of Sumy. According to preliminary information, no people were injured and there was no significant damage or destruction.

Also on Wednesday morning, a Russian drone struck one of the settlements in the Buryn community. Due to the impact, an unoccupied residential house caught fire. The fire was extinguished.

Situation on the border with the Russian Federation

The situation on the front line in the Sumy direction on September 2:

The enemy made no progress in advances or assault operations. The Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled all attacks.

Enemy troops are present in the following communities:

• Khotin community: Novomykolaivka, Oleksiivka, Kindrativka, Kostiantynivka, and Bilovody;
• Yunakivka community: Yablunivka, Varachyne, Basivka, Yunakivka, Sadky, and Loknia;
• Krasnopillia community: Mariine.

In the North Slobozhanshchyna direction, Ukrainian drones struck two tanks, an FPV drone launch position, trenches, dugouts, and shelters. In addition, enemy mortar positions, a power station, communications and reconnaissance equipment, as well as an enemy drone were destroyed.

Evacuation

Over the past day, local authorities together with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and public organizations evacuated six people from border communities.

On September 3 at noon, enemy “Shahed” drones attacked one of the border villages of Sumy region. When a family ran out of their house in search of shelter, a drone struck their home. Later, nine more drones hit the village. The family was not injured. Due to the massive attack, the woman called the police and requested evacuation. A few hours later, the “White Angels” evacuated the mother and children to a safe place.

A Sad Date

On September 3, 2014, in Luhansk region, 17 servicemen of our 27th Artillery Brigade were killed as a result of enemy shelling. Sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the fallen. Eternal honor and memory to the Heroes!

Culture

Sumy region is represented on a new postage stamp by a women’s shirt made of homespun fabric. Its sleeves are decorated with stripes of diamonds, cut diamonds, and garlands of small flowers, symbolizing life force, femininity and motherhood, fertility, and continuation of the family line. The embroidered shirt dates back to the 20th century and is an exhibit of the museum collection. The print run of the stamp is 320,000 copies. The new issue is already available at post offices, philatelic shops, and on the postal marketplace.
