August 30: what was happening in Sumy and in the Sumy region on Saturday
War with Russia
Over the course of the day, from the morning of August 29 to the morning of August 30, 2025, Russian troops carried out more than 80 shelling attacks on 42 settlements in 15 territorial communities of the region.
The highest number of attacks was recorded in the Sumy, Shostka, and Konotop districts.
The enemy carried out more than 20 guided aerial bomb (KAB) strikes, more than 10 VOG grenade drops from UAVs, up to 10 MLRS strikes, and also conducted FPV drone and UAV attacks on the territory of Sumy region.
As a result of Russian shelling of the region, civilians were injured:
- In the Znob-Novhorodske community, a woman born in 1967 was injured as a result of KAB strikes;
- In the Velyka Pysarivka community, a man born in 1963 and a woman born in 1995 were injured as a result of FPV drone strikes.
Objects of civilian infrastructure were damaged or destroyed:
- in the Novoslobidska community, three vehicles were damaged;
- in the Seredyna-Buda community, private residential houses and the premises of an educational institution were damaged;
- in the Znob-Novhorodske community, private households were damaged;
- in the Bilopillia community, private residential houses were damaged.
On the morning of August 30, Russian forces struck a vehicle in Nova Sloboda with a fiber-optic-guided drone. The car burned down, but there were no casualties, as it was parked in front of the yard entrance and the fire did not spread further.
Also this afternoon, the enemy dropped explosives from a UAV on civilian infrastructure. As a result, a 62-year-old village head of one of the settlements in the Druzhba community was injured. The man received medical assistance and was later released home.
Situation on the border with the Russian Federation
The situation on the front line in the Sumy direction on August 29:
The Defense Forces achieved successes in the areas of Bezsalivka in the Bilopillia community, Andriivka and Oleksiivka in the Khotin community, Varachyne, Yunakivka and the area near Sadky in the Yunakivka community, as well as in Russia’s Kursk region.
The enemy continued attempts at offensive actions in the directions of Oleksiivka in the Khotin community and Varachyne in the Yunakivka community. Enemy troops are present in the following communities:
- Khotin community: Novomykolaivka, Oleksiivka, Vodolahy, Kindrativka, Kostiantynivka, Zhuravka, Bilovody;
- Yunakivka community: Yablunivka, Varachyne, Basivka, Yunakivka, Sadky, Loknia;
- Krasnopillia community: Mariine;
- Bilopillia community: Iskryskivshchyna.
Evacuation
Over the past day, local authorities together with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and public organizations evacuated two people from border communities.
Police were informed by medics that a 67-year-old patient was in critical condition due to internal bleeding. Because of the difficult security situation in the area, medics were unable to reach him on their own. The “White Angels” evacuated the man and transported him to a medical facility. He is currently under doctors’ supervision.

Rally
On August 30, a rally was held in Sumy dedicated to the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, in support of missing persons and Ukrainian prisoners of war. People gathered with posters and photographs of their loved ones, flags, and placards with slogans.
